HSF has more than 17,000 students and approx. 850 employees. HSF is the leading private university in Germany with presence study paths. The department of Chemistry & Biology (C&B) of HSF with its Institute for Analytical Research (IFAR) clearly focusses on analytical chemistry and environmental research. IFAR combines modern and innovative instrumental analytical chemical and biological approaches including data interpretation and visualisation. HSF is accredited by the German science board and has state-of-the-art instrumentation for analysis of polar organic pollutants and particles in environmental matrices. Capacity building in terms of education, validation and conceptualization has been applied in numerous trainings. The research group has a size of approx. 10 scientists at present. The knowledge at IFAR has been gained in past and ongoing projects on e.g., EMCO; AquaTerra, ECO- ITN-Environmental ChemOinformatic, JPI Water project PROMOTE, and EU projects like SYSTEM, PRISTINE and P-THREE. HSF researchers involved in nexus monARC will contribute with their knowledge in analyses of environmental contaminants using organic and inorganic mass spectrometry, stormwater management, prevention and monitoring of water contamination, as well as anthropogenic particles including tire wear, microplastics and nanoplastics.

HSF will share experience gained from research and training projects as well as from project management and coordination. HSF will also support capacity building in research, innovation potential, research funding and networking with various stakeholder groups. The research infrastructure at HSF will create the opportunity to enhance research capacity building in marine multi-stressor systems at NKUA, and NKUA will benefit from the HSF experience in research infrastructure management.
